I met Joe Strummer years ago backstage at a festival. I didn’t actually know who he was at the time. He walked up to me and whispered in my ear “In the low light, they’d better watch you”. I wrote this song for him.
Juju
I feel like going away
To a place in the sun
Where people play
Where music sings
I’m out on the beach
I hear people talk about
The bird and the bees
La la la la
La la la la
I feel like the echo of a cockle
Where nothing looks right
Even through your eyes
I swagger like a cowboy
To get out of sight,
There’s a bad taste of karma
And I’m dead in advance
La la la la
La la la la
La la la la
La la la la
In the low light
I watch you
In the low light
I watch you
Constrained
Baffled and beat
It’s the sky and the sea
Where the shore line meets
And the sun and the journey
Dances in-between
I feel like going away
To a place in the sun
Where people play
Where music sings
I’m out on the beach
I hear people talk about
The bird and the bees
La la la la
La la la la
Like the echo of a cockle
Where nothing looks right
Swagger like a cowboy
To get out of sight,
There’s a bad taste of karma
And I’m dead in advance
In your eyes see the pain of mine
I feel like going away…
See the rain
Cover the sea
Blue sky fall
Down to its knees
I fell to the earth
Drank tears from your cheek
Feel the heat won’t let me breathe
I feel like going away…
