Little Fish

Little Fish is a band that gets closer to the the fans, the root of the story and of the song, as comfortable playing house parties as they are the Royal Albert Hall.

Review of Whiplash, released 9th August

I shouldn’t be reviewing Little Fish really, it’s hard for me to be impartial when it comes to Juju and Nez… I was smiling from the moment I opened the envelope this morning and new single ‘Whiplash’ came out, running fast towards my CD player. And soon, although being Monday, life felt that little bit better. ‘Straight forward’ is the first word that comes to mind, either I think about the energetic front woman in Little Fish, the raw music piece in question or the simple packaging: no fuss, a black and white picture and one song, but it’s a song worth a couple of B-sides and an instrumental version, no doubt.

So, time to let the music do the talking. Songs ‘write away our sickness’ says Juju, and while this unfortunately does not apply to all songs in general, ‘Whiplash’ couldn’t be described any better: dirty infectious riffs ferociously pulling out whatever is wrong with your day and stamping on it with a passion, until there’s nothing left but a fulfilled smile on your face. It takes you like a hurricane, and after a brief but intense 2:51, you’ll be left there wondering what just hit you and wanting more. And then playing it again. And again. And again. Raw, real, wild, melodic yet far from being commercial, ‘Whiplash’ is what punk rock has been missing for too long.

Digitally released on August 9th, physically out later on the 23rd, it’s a teasing appetizer for upcoming full length “Baffled and Beat”, in stores on August 16th. Make sure you get a copy. 9/10 Review by The Wicked Witch Share
