Italian Fish fan Fabio sent us this photo of him rocking the Little Fish sticker on his guitar. He plays in a band called PLEASE PLAY LOUD (great name!).

There are loads of Little Fish stickers backstage in venues up and down the UK, but it’s great to see them spreading around the world… If you have photos of Little Fish stickers in weird and wonderful places, you can add them to the LF Flickr group (or reply to this post).

In full voice I sing from D below middle C, to C# just over an octave above middle C and then up to the C above that in my head voice. I did take three or four singing lessons which I recorded and then repeated the exercises myself at home for many months.

Fishy Paper Square #6: The Fox

For Fishy Paper Square #6 we asked our friends Daley and Lizzy to come up with a design using a printing method we haven’t used yet (we’d done two illustrated booklets, a Christmas postcard, a letterpress lyrics card and a comic). Lizzy suggested monoprinting, and came up with the fox design inspired by Juju’s words.

It’s called monoprinting because you can only make one original copy of a print (with the letterpress printed Wonderful Paper Square we got Nick to make us 400 “originals”). You’ll see why when you watch the video. We really liked the idea, because it means that every Paper Clubber gets a completely unique print. There are some with an eye missing, a few that look really evil and Daley even did one with a hat (but I think we took that out).

Anyway, here’s how we did it:

The Paper Club has come along way since we first came up with the idea in May 2010, but we’re only just warming up. We enjoy sending them more than ever, and it’s great to know that the Paper Squares are landing on doormats around the world.

Little Fish in session on Bob Harris Sunday (Radio 2)

We had a great time recording this with Bob. When you’re playing in a “talk radio” studio you don’t get monitor mixes through headphones. Juju just sang and played completely acoustic and I had a little quiet practice amp to hear the organ. Listening to it this morning, with the radio compression and tasty reverb it sounds much better. ;)

This embedded player should work for a week (until Santa comes down the chimney to switch it off).

Gaz Coombes’s gig at the Rotunda on the 9th sold out so quickly that he’s added a second night and asked us to support him. The Rotunda gigs are being organised by our friends at Oxfork, and it sounds like they’re going to be pretty special.

So we’ll be playing at the Rotunda (a small, strange room in a garden somewhere off Iffley Road) on Saturday 10th December. Tickets look like they are selling fast, but there are a few left at WeGotTickets. See you there!

Sometimes, music can take you to Paradise. We arrived in Thailand on Monday after having played a superb week of shows in Singapore. For those of you who like a good card game, we recommend ‘Belote’. Although we are having a great time, we are thinking about the music and realise that we have to come home soon and get cracking with this next record. It has taken us a while to figure out how LF can continue, and I think we have a plan. To be continued….

Wow. We met so many great people tonight at the Substation gig. Roughly in order of appearance:

Two girls whose names we didn’t catch but who were the nicest people ever
Seow Yee (“S.Y.”), the Timbre promoter who’s been sorting everything out for us
Shaun Taylor, who got us over here in the first place
Leo, who is building a studio to record local bands in exchange for session time
A dude from Seattle
Gloria, Angelina (?), Moustachio Man and Nigel
Two more guys (Keiran?) and a girl whose names we never asked
Gavin AshBlack, who designed the awesome poster
Danny Loong, co-owner of Timbre, all-round guitar legend and leader of Raw Earth, who played after us tonight

Before each gig, we get fed by Timbre (they have the same menu at each venue). Juju has settled on the Italian sausage fusilli, and I’m favouring the “Classic Italian” super-slim based pizza. It’s heavily loaded with cheese, but I can handle it.

We played to a full house, we did a storming version of The Umbilical Chord, we got two German kids to form a mosh pit and we caused such a stir that we were warned the police might show up tomorrow to make sure things don’t get out of hand.

Like the man said, “the deeply rooted band has total disregard for musical rules, doing only what matters to them.” This came as quite a shock to Juju, who didn’t realise there were musical rules. Time for an awkward conversation…

People keep telling us that the Singaporeans are shy, as if that would make us take it easy on them. Juju launched straight onto the front of the stage and told them all to stand up, link arms, sing along, clap and join the Cult of the Fish. It turns out Singaporeans are quite shy, but if you ignore that and talk to them anyway they’re all happy to chat. Especially if you’re on stage with a microphone and you’ve stopped half way through a song to wait for someone to take a phone call.

Warning: The band at the end of this video is not Little Fish. It’s Goodfellas, a local cover band. They asked me to jam with them on Superstition and I couldn’t refuse. ;)

Hoorah! We managed to wake up today with plenty of time to spare before going to Bar Timbre for the first show of our tour (okay, well maybe not that much time…). The weather routine here seems to go as follows; very hot and sunny in the morning and early lunch followed at about 2pm with some sort of tropical force rainfall that might or might not clear up come the evening. Needless to say that it is very humid.

Today, we went for lunch in the mall next door and then headed to The Arts House for our first show. We arrived at around 5pm, did a soundcheck and then ate pizza. The pizzas here are pretty ace if you like the dough to be super skinny. We played for an hour in front of a whole new audience. The Singaporeans apparently are more used to cover bands playing in bars where they don’t have to pay much attention and treat live music more as a soundtrack that they can talk along to. But, hey, not with us. By the end of the show we had the front row clapping along to Darling Dear.

P.S. Just remember Singapore, we are a cult. Please join us.

For the second time in our lives we managed to leave Oxford on time (after rushing around all day to finish off the things we hadn’t done) and got to Heathrow early. There was another time, but we can’t remember when. Oh, and the time we arrived at the 12-Bar in Swindon ten minutes early for soundcheck and were so freaked out that we sat in the car for 15 minutes before knocking on the door.

It’s a long way to Singapore. It took about 18 hours. We didn’t film the whole thing, but Juju caught a few moments on camera and here they are. The most interesting thing about flying in to Singapore was seeing all the cargo ships filling up the sea. You can catch a glimpse of them in the video, I think.

We screwed up the jetlag strategy by sleeping until 4pm today (16 hours), so now it’s midnight and we’re wide awake. Our host has every single Carry On film ever made, so don’t worry – we’ll be OK. He even has some 3D films and 3D glasses so if we really can’t sleep we’ll be watching How To Train Your Dragon in 3D at 5am. Rock and roll.
